Randall Jong’s Approach to Working with the Body

At East West Integrative Medicine, our practitioners provide a variety of skill sets in the world of manual therapy, massage, and holistic practices. We’re continuing our spotlight series with one of our most dedicated massage therapists, Randall Jong.

Randall is a compassionate massage therapist at our Glen Park location. He blends anatomical knowledge with an intuitive flow to create sessions that are intentional, deeply relaxing, and tailored to each person’s unique needs.

Manual therapy requires a lot of practice and communication to find what works and what doesn’t in any given moment of a session.

A Personalized Approach to Every Massage Session

For Randall, every great massage begins with truly listening to the client. He starts each session with a detailed intake—asking about your goals, areas of tension or pain, injury history, and daily habits that may be contributing to discomfort.

“Understanding what someone’s body is holding and what they’re hoping to feel afterward allows me to tailor the session specifically to them,” he says. His work combines precise anatomical focus with intuitive movement, creating a therapeutic experience that feels both effective and deeply nurturing.

The Art of Manual Therapy: Communication and Skill

Randall wishes more people knew that manual therapy isn’t about magically knowing where the pain is—it's about communication, practice, and presence.

“There’s a belief that a good therapist just knows the spots, but the truth is it takes communication and active listening—with both hands and ears,” he explains. He encourages clients to speak up about pressure, areas of focus, and what feels good. Manual therapy, he believes, is a serious art form—one that requires patience, sensitivity, and continual learning.

Life Outside the Treatment Room

When he’s not working with clients, Randall stays grounded by spending time with his family. He also enjoys movement practices like weight training, calisthenics, and yoga, which help him stay strong, focused, and connected to his own body.

Exercise is a key part of Randall’s wellness routine year-round. Maintaining strength and mobility allows him to show up fully for his clients and support his own long-term health.

New Techniques and Continued Learning

Randall is passionate about growing his skills and is currently studying two specialized forms of bodywork—Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques (M.A.T.) and reflexology.

  • Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques (M.A.T.) focus on soft tissue work, joint mobility, and nerve stretching. These techniques help relieve pain and improve function throughout the body.

  • Reflexology, which involves the feet, hands, and ears, is deeply relaxing and can ease tension in the entire body—especially helpful for clients who experience chronic hand or foot pain.
