MCCURDY
East-West founder, Marnie McCurdy, L.Ac., M.S., CMT, FABORM, is a licensed practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
A nationally certified acupuncturist, Marnie earned her master's degree in science at the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in San Francisco. In addition, she spent her internship in Hangzhou Province in China working in several hospital settings with a focus on gynecology and pain.
Her knowledge and past experience in bodywork, dance and Pilates enhance her understanding and practice of Chinese medicine, particularly in the field of orthopedics.
She has furthered her knowledge of how acupuncture can treat musculo-skeletal pain through training with Dr.
Fred Lerner, the highly regarded chiropractic orthopedist at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles.
In the field of infertility, Marnie apprenticed for two years in the well-respected Dr. Lifang Liang's practice in San Francisco. There, she learned many herbal formulas and acupuncture protocols as they relate to infertility treatment.
Marnie is a member of the national infertility association, Resolve, and a fellow of the American Board of Oriental Reproductive Medicine.
Marnie’s practice is also focused on obstetrics – the care of the mother during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum. Early in her career, Marnie studied to become a birth coach and recently had the privilege of studying with acupuncturist and midwife, Raven Lang. Raven has been an inspiration in the field of obstetrics, sharing her experiences of how effective acupuncture can be in working with some of the common conditions that arise in the course of pregnancy. Marnie is pleased to be able to integrate her training as a doula with her acupuncture practice.

JANE KANG
Jane Kang, L.Ac., CMT, graduated with a Master's Degree from San Francisco's American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (ACTCM). While there, she worked with a variety of populations. As an intern at the Jewish Home for the Aged, she regularly treated elderly patients with issues ranging from chronic back pain to Parkinson's.
The experience taught her how to treat clients very sensitive to needling and who were on many types of medications.
The opportunity to focus on ear point treatments presented itself at the ACTCM auricular clinic. Discovered in the 1950's by a French neurologist, acupuncture points on the ear were found to correspond anatomically to the pattern of an upside person. Having a strong connection to the brain, they are especially effective in treating anxiety-related issues, pain anywhere in the body, and addictions. Jane continues to use auricular points in her treatments today. At CPMC's Davies Campus trauma recovery unit, Jane was able to put to use Chinese medicine's stroke protocol. Many of the treatments there also concentrated on pain alleviation.
Currently, Jane focuses on women's health issues and muscular-skeletal pain. Working with noted acupuncturist and herbalist Carol Fong, L.Ac., of Poujitang Clinic for two years has piqued her interest in fertility. Jane feels lucky to have garnered techniques from Carol that were passed down to her from her master in China. Jane continues to supplement her knowledge with classes from Dr. Brandon Horn, Wendy Yu, and Dr. Daoshing Ni. Because Chinese medicine is a holistic medicine, Jane believes treating all of the body's systems will ultimately help the reproductive system as well. She has successfully treated constipation, OCD, insomnia, stress, allergies, hair loss, and PMS in patients who were coming to her for fertility treatments.
Jane studies under Steve Coleman, L.Ac., CMT, who has over three decades of bodywork experience. He is also an acupuncturist who developed his own protocol to treat back pain, an ailment that affects 80% of the population. Under Steve's tutelage, Jane continues to add tools to her repertoire for pain relief, anything from a bodywork technique to
wrist-ankle acupuncture, a totally painless method of needling used to treat muscle aches. A bodyworker in her own right, Jane is versed in Shiatsu, Thai and also employs a variation on Swedish massage. Through experience, she has discovered acupuncture treatments for pain are best supplemented with massage.
PHILOSOPHY
Traditional Chinese Medicine traces
its roots to ancient Taoist philosophy,
which views each individual as a unique system of energy
where body and mind act as one unit. Each influences
and balances the other in maintaining good health.
At East-West, we take a holistic approach to treating
the mind, body and spirit. We encourage the development
of a mutually respectful and trusting partnership. And,
we strive to empower you to achieve your highest level
of overall health and well being.
We believe that acupuncture, in combination with herbal
medicine, massage, nutrition and exercise are the essential
elements for maintaining health and preventing illness
in a stressful world. Having a sense of humor helps,
too.
